Bringing your pet to India is possible, but the process depends on whether the pet is coming under transfer of residence, re-import, temporary stay or cargo movement. For dogs and cats, the key requirement is to obtain the correct documents before travel and complete the AQCS clearance process after arrival in India.
The common documents required include vaccination records, microchip certificate, official veterinary health certificate, owner passport copy, flight ticket or airway bill and the prescribed AQCS application form. AQCS dog and cat import SOPs state that the application should be submitted at least 7 days before embarkation, and the advance NOC is issued by the concerned AQCS after document examination.
On arrival in India, the AQCS officer examines the pet at the port of entry. If the dog or cat is found sound and healthy, the final NOC is issued at the port of entry. If the pet fails physical examination or shows clinical signs of disease, the pet may be taken to the quarantine station for 15 days.
