Many Indians returning from abroad want to bring their dog or cat back to India under the transfer of residence category. Under the baggage rule, the import of dogs and cats up to two numbers is linked with proof of two years of stay abroad and proof of transferring residence to India.
AQCS guidance requires pet owners to check whether they fall under the applicable category: baggage, DGFT licence or re-import. For transfer of residence, AQCS asks for proof of two years' overseas stay and visa cancellation or relocation proof.
Pet parents should prepare documents early, including the vaccination certificate, microchip certificate, official veterinary health certificate, passport copy, travel ticket or airway bill and AQCS application. Felcan can assist with documentation review and coordination for bringing pets to India under transfer of residence.
